Verizon customers start petition for Samsung GALAXY Note

Last month, before the Samsung GALAXY Note LTE appeared on the Super Bowl telecast and was launched via AT&T, speculation centered on a version on the phablet for Verizon. This model for Big Red was called the Samsung GALAXY Journal. But to the chagrin of Verizon customers, there has been no word since then about the phone with the 5.3 inch screen getting launched on Big Red. So some Verizon customers decided to take matters into their own hands and have started a petition drive.

Those behind the petition are aiming for 5,000 signatures to let Big Red know that its customers really, really want this phone. Currently, there is a long way to go with 350 names signed on to the petition. Need to hear the specs again? The Samsung GALAXY Note has a 5.3 inch Super AMOLED display with resolution of 800 x 1280. Under the hood is a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8660. 1GB of RAM is aboard with an 8MP rear-facing camera capturing video in 1080p. The 2MP shooter up front takes self-portraits and allows you to video chat. 16GB (or 32GB) of native storage is available. Android 2.3 is installed although an update to Android 4.0 is coming soon. AT&T and Best Buy are asking $299.99 for the phone, with a signed two-year contract.

Samsung Ships 5 Million Galaxy Notes in 5 Months

Samsung announced on Wednesday that it has shipped more than 5 million units of its part-phone, part-tablet device, the Galaxy Note.
Samsung revealed on the company’s Korean site that more than 5 million Galaxy Note devices have been shipped to retailers and other partners since its October launch. However, Samsung didn’t reveal how many of those shipped products have been purchased.
http://6.mshcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/samsung-galaxy-note-600-275x171.jpg

In October, Samsung unveiled its 5.3-inch, Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” smartphone, which doubles as a tablet. It also comes with a stylus pen for drawing and note-taking. It originally debuted in Europe and has since become available for purchase in the U.S from AT&T, one of the few phones that can run on the carrier’s high-speed LTE network. It’s expected to receive an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the near future.

The device had many scratching their heads as to whether consumers would want to carry around a device that serves as both smartphone and tablet, but these numbers appear to indicate there is a demand.

However, looking at Samsung’s flagship device, the Galaxy S, it achieved the same amount of shipments in just 85 days.
Samsung has previously said sales of Galaxy Note are on the rise in Europe and Asia, particularly in France, Germany, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
“The rapid global sales of Galaxy Note are notable since it is creating a new market for something between smartphone and tablet PC,” the company said in December. “The speed of the global sales is expected to accelerate further next year when it will be available in the US.”
In December, Samsung said it shipped more than one million Notes worldwide nearly two months after its debut.
“One million global shipping of Galaxy Note means it has well positioned itself as a market creator,” Samsung said at the time. “Samsung will continuously strengthen its leadership in the global smartphone market as well as create new markets with innovative devices.”

Nokia launches China smartphone, hopes for rebound

Nokia said its Lumia 800C will be supported by China Telecom Ltd., one of the country's three major state-owned carriers.
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2012/03/29/business/Nokia/Nokia-popup.jpg

The Finnish company, once the global industry leader, launched a corporate turnaround effort after falling behind Apple and other competitors in tapping into the popularity of smartphones.
China is the world's biggest mobile phone market with about 900 million accounts, and is Nokia's biggest market. Nokia is one of China's most prominent brands but its market share has slipped amid intense competition from Apple's iPhone and phones made by South Korea's Samsung and other rivals.
"China is critically important for Nokia," CEO Stephen Elop said at a product debut held in an aircraft hangar-size tent with pop music and dancers. He was joined on stage by the China Telecom chairman, Wang Xiaochu.
Colin Giles, Nokia's executive vice president for global sales, pointed to the rollout of four Lumia models over the past year as evidence of the company's revival.
"We've been demonstrating innovation and some leadership as well," Giles told reporters after the event. "We are changing and transforming ourselves as we go."
Chinese consumers are increasingly important to global electronics and other brands as their spending rises at a time of economic malaise in the United States, Japan and Europe.
Free-spending Chinese gadget lovers bought 70 million smartphones last year and sales are forecast to rise by 45% this year, according to Analysys International, a research firm in Beijing.
"Even a part of that would make a substantial market for any of these players," said David Wolf, a technology marketing consultant in Beijing. "It could be the one factor that ensures survival."
Globally, Nokia also has been squeezed by phones running Google's Android system and by lower-end Asian manufacturers. Its market share plummeted to below 30% last year from 40% in 2008.
Nokia announced this year it would stop assembling phones in Europe by year-end and shift production to Asia. It announced 4,000 job cuts on top of nearly 10,000 layoffs last year.
In China, the Lumia 800C will go on sale in early April for 3,599 yuan ($570), according to Elop.
Nokia and China Telecom plan to release a lower-priced model, the 610C, aimed at students and other budget users, according to Elop. He said the Lumia 900C and the 710C sold in other markets also will be brought to China over time.
Nokia also will roll out Lumia models for the networks of China's two other major carriers, China Mobile Ltd. and China Unicom Ltd., said Colin Giles, Nokia's executive vice president for global sales and manager of its China unit until 2010.
The Lumia 800C will run on Microsoft's Windows Phone, giving that system its first major exposure in a Chinese market dominated by iPhones and Android.
In the United States, AT&T announced Monday it will sell the Lumia 900 running Windows Phone for $100 with a two-year contract.
Giles expressed confidence Nokia can make up for its late entry into China's smartphone market on the strength of an extensive retail presence and close ties with local developers of services that form a large part of the appeal of smartphones.
Nokia has formed partnerships with leading Chinese Web companies such as search engine Baidu and portals Sina, Sohu and Tencent to create services. The company says it and Microsoft will provide financing for entrepreneurs to develop Windows Phone-based applications.
"We're creating innovation in China for China, which some of our competitors are not doing," Giles said.
Nokia phones are sold in some 200,000 retail outlets in China including the company's own stores and other distributors, according to Anna Shipley, its communications director for China, Japan and Korea.
Giles said the company plans an extensive marketing campaign on television and online.
Nokia has a stronger brand in China than it does in the United States but will need to revitalize sales and relations with retailers who have seen demand for its products falter, said Wolf, chairman of Wolf Group Asia.
"They've got a lot of work ahead of them," he said.

We hope Google sorts it out to save its Royal droid from the abyss.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Although it has little interest in what manufacturers get up to with its Android operating system, Google does like to produce a smartphone of its own every now and then to show them how it thinks things should be done. The Galaxy Nexus is the third such ‘Googlephone’ to go on sale and, at the time of writing at least, is the only smartphone available that runs Android 4 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ (ICS).
The Galaxy Nexus is made by Samsung and although it has the same plasticky build as that manufacturer’s Galaxy S II, it still feels solid and well-made. It’s also big, thanks to one of the largest screens found on any smartphone – it’s a whopping 4.65in from corner to corner and is gently curved from top to bottom.

We’re not fond of smartphones with screens this big, since it makes them difficult to hold and use with one hand, but at least the one on Galaxy Nexus has a correspondingly high resolution of 720×1,280 pixels. if nothing else, this makes browsing the web a breeze and most pages can be read without the need to zoom in.
The AMOLED screen technology makes it bright with rich colours, but text that should be displayed with a sharp edge instead looks a little fuzzy. this screen’s higher resolution means the effect isn’t quite so pronounced, but we advise potential buyers to see this smartphone for themselves in case they don’t like the slightly reduced display clarity.
Given that this is Google’s idea of a premium Android smartphone, we’re a little disappointed that the Galaxy Nexus has the same 1.4GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM as the Samsung Galaxy S II – a smartphone that’s now one year old. we can’t complain too much though, since both models are extremely capable and run demanding Android apps very smoothly indeed.
Battery life isn’t too bad either – the Galaxy Nexus played MP3s on a loop non-stop for 30 hours with all wireless connections disabled. The camera was more of a disappointment though. Its five-megapixel images aren’t as sharp as we’d like and the autofocus didn’t always do its job properly.
Google has made a lot of changes to Android with version 4, the most immediately obvious being that it no longer uses physical buttons below the smartphone screen – these are now icons that can come and go on the multi-touch display instead. The default user interface is also cleaner and more streamlined than before, although other smartphone manufacturers tend to hide this under their own fussier skins. Widgets are now listed separately to apps, which makes them easier to find, and apps can be grouped into folders on the Home screens by dragging one icon onto another – just like in iOS on the iPhone.
Android 4′s built-in apps are also improved. A new ‘People’ app replaces the usual contacts manager and can pull in updates from Google+ and Twitter, while the speedy web browser can synchronise its bookmarks with desktop versions of Google Chrome. There’s also a new option to set mobile data limits for specific periods of time, which makes it much easier to avoid excess data charges on mobile phone contracts that have a monthly data cap.

Samsung speaks on Galaxy S3: release date may be in April!

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is probably one of the most mysterious and
attractive Android phones in recent years. There are so many rumors
and questions being asked about it that is hard to keep track! One of
the most important questions to this date remains the release date
and the two most speculated ones were that will either come out
during Samsung Unpacked on May 22nd or that the release date will
be fitted well with the Olympic
Games and the phone would come out in July.

These rumors aren’t really such fiction either since a lot of them were based on facts, analysis and figures and above all what the staff and CEOs of Samsung said about their latest phone.  The latest news are that the release date will be in April, which is just around the corner! This time the rumor is backed up by an official representative of Samsung, and not some anonymous CEOs that have been cited a lot before.
The-Galaxy-S3-Release-Date-April

The Launch Event is in May, but may be Moved to April?

The man in the spotlight today is Senior Vice President of Samsung China, Kim Young-Ha who in a recent show said that Samsung is considering to move the Galaxy S3 release date and launch event from May to April. This is some major news and quite an unexpected turn for the S3.
But why all of this so sudden? There must be some factor (or factors) that made Samsung step on the peddle and get more serious about launching the Galaxy S3 sooner than expected. Are the many new releases of other phones threatening the Korean giant? Surely not, since the stocks are booming and Samsung recently made some huge success in China. They now make 24% of all shares on the phone market, which is three times higher than the arch-rival Apple.
Others say that perhaps Samsung finished all the preparations for the Galaxy S3 sooner than expected and no longer sees any reasons for postponing the release date. If all the arrangements are made with the US carriers then the phone may really be released the next month.

Final Thoughts on the April Release Date

But, we should point out that the event might be moved to April, which is what companies like Samsung are famous for. They give us some information that we want to be true, but they warn us it may not be so, yet we choose to believe it because we want to.
But believe this: the Samsung Galaxy S3 release date is coming closer and closer! Are you ready to trade in your old phone and buy the latest “genius” Android phone? If you are the owner of a Galaxy S2 then you are probably wondering how the two pair against each other. Well, look at the battle of the giants: Samsung Galaxy S2 VS Galaxy S3 if you want to find out!

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G ready for Sale

Samsung’s Galaxy family is really growing at fast pace and taking it further Samsung has launched, Galaxy Blaze which will be available from March 21 in select T Mobile stores. Galaxy Blaze will support 4G network with 42Mbps support and a 3.97-inch Super AMOLED display. It is an Android phone with 1.5 GHz Scorpion Dual Core Processor. Samsung announced this phone back in January but as expected it will be available in the market from 21st march on select T Mobile stores and 28th March onwards nationwide. Samsung has provided it a 5mp primary and 1.3 mp secondary camera. The only disappointing thing with galaxy blaze is Samsung has used Android version Gingerbread 2.3.6 rather than latest 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

But that might be because Samsung has used their custom interface i.e. TouchWiz, which do not support the latest Android version. The contract that Samsung has signed with T Mobile is of $149, which is not a bad deal for such an awesome device.
